My notes on "How to Win Friends and Influence People", a book by Dale Carnegie Importance The general message I got from this book is to remember that people like to be important. They think that they are important than anyone else, and from their own perspective, they should be. Work with that universal truth. Ask them about themselves, find out what their passion is and it will most certainly be interesting.People's Passion You can always get to speak with someone if you talk about what they are interested in. Benefits If you want someone to do something for you, or have a favor to ask of someone, think of the situation from their perspective before asking them. What will they get out of it? How will they benefit? Tell them how they will get something out of it rather than telling them what you'll get out of it, and they'll be glad to help out. Sugar Coat If you have a complaint about someone − tell them something nice first! Excitement If you want to get results, get people excited about what they are doing. Dramatize the scenario and encourage competition. Drama People will remember dramatic things more than boring this. We have to jazz things up! Sincerity For any of these concepts to work, they must come from the heart and be truthful. Complementing People Take into consideration how the person sees themelves and how they pride themselves. Stroking this ego can be effective, but should integrate your perspective.
