Dear Mr. Buffett, Here in Quincy, Massachusetts the weather is the best it has been all year. After a walk down to the post office to mail a letter to a prospective employer, I decided the weather is so nice; I'll walk down there again and mail this letter too! I am writing to you to inform you about my business interests and ask your opinion of my current situation and future plans. I read on your website that you are a technophobe, I am not. I've always been taking things apart to see how they work and computers have taken a little longer to figure out than phones, radios, and the like. Not to say I don't have an appreciation for bacon and eggs, bread and butter type of things like gypsum, insurance, or paint. Technology is simply my passion, and being at the forefront of my professional life I have decided to focus on making technology accessible, useful and usable to everyone. The letter I told you about earlier is to a brand new company called GeoPhoenix. A civil engineer from MIT named Adriana Guzman started this company and they have set out to make interfaces for information and functionality accessible via any terminal; a pc, kiosk, telephone, or a handheld pc, like a Palm pilot. In fact, the former CEO of Palm recently joined their team as executive chairman. At Tufts University, I majored in Human Factors Engineering, also called Engineering Psychology. I focused on making computers easier to use and eventually came up with a concept to build a business around: making information and machine functionality (including computers, of course) more accessible to people. Due to the lack of the proper business knowledge and financial resources, I have been unable to start my business. That is why I am so interested in working at GeoPhoenix. I believe that the value of technology is largely untapped, and that the majority of this untapped value is trapped in the complex, error−prone graphical user interface. Well, what do you think? While I would like to start my business right now, don't you think it will help to work with a company focused on such a similar idea? I understand you must be very busy, but thought you might get a kick out of hearing my story and sharing some business savvy. Your websites are fantastic - fast, simple, easy−to−access and filled with quality content. Keep up the good work, and if you ever have any questions concerning technology, feel free to ask me. Kind regards, Albert L. Lash, IV
