While previous generations of my family have had mixed results with family businesses in the past, I can see why they set them up. Running a business (and work in general) can be a consuming endeavor, and its nice to be able to spend time with the people you care about. I’m trying to remind myself that I still need to strike a balance between bringing home the bacon and spending quality time with the fam. Know what I mean?
There are numerous examples of failed family businesses, or failed families that lost their relationships but had successful businesses. One example is “Legal Seafood”, which as I understand it is still a successful company, but the family members ended up suing each other.
